Ready to Talk to Your Car?

Follow these simple steps to connect your OBD-II dongle and start having conversations with your vehicle

1
Locate Your OBD-II Port

The OBD-II port is typically located under the dashboard on the driver's side. It's a 16-pin connector that looks like a trapezoid.

Common locations:

  • Under the steering wheel
  • Near the driver's left knee
  • Behind a small panel or cover
  • Sometimes on the passenger side (rare)

Tip

Look for a trapezoid-shaped connector with 16 pins. It's usually black or gray.

2
Insert the OBD-II Dongle

With your car's engine off, firmly insert the OBD-II dongle into the port. It should fit snugly and click into place.

Tip

Don't force the connection. If it doesn't fit easily, check the orientation and try again.

3
Start Your Engine

Turn on your car's ignition and start the engine. This activates the OBD-II system and allows the dongle to communicate with your car's computer.

Tip

Wait about 30 seconds for the system to fully initialize after starting.

4
Download and Open Car AI

Download the Car AI app from the App Store or Google Play. Open the app and create an account or sign in if you already have one.

Tip

Start with simple questions to get comfortable talking to your car!

Troubleshooting

Dongle not found during scanning?

Make sure your car is running and the dongle LED is on. Try turning Bluetooth off and on again, then restart the scan.

Connection keeps dropping?

This can happen if you're too far from your car or if there's interference. Stay within 30 feet of your vehicle and avoid areas with many Bluetooth devices.

No live data showing?

Ensure your engine is running and has been on for at least 30 seconds. Some cars take longer to initialize their OBD-II systems.
